Membrane Transporters Involved in Iron Trafficking: Physiological and Pathological Aspects

نویسندگان

چکیده

Iron is an essential transition metal for its involvement in several crucial biological functions, the most notable being oxygen storage and transport. Due to high reactivity potential toxicity, intracellular extracellular iron levels must be tightly regulated. This achieved through transport systems that mediate cellular uptake efflux both at level of plasma membrane on membranes lysosomes, endosomes mitochondria. Among these systems, key players are ferroportin, only known transporter mediating from cells; DMT1, ZIP8 ZIP14, which contrary, influx into cytoplasm, acting lysosomes endosomes; mitoferrin, involved mitochondria heme synthesis Fe-S cluster assembly. The focus this review provide updated view physiological role proteins pathologies arise defects systems.

Transporters contributing to iron trafficking in plants.

This review will discuss recent progress in understanding the many roles of transporters in the whole-plant physiological processes that maintain iron (Fe) homeostasis. These processes include uptake from the soil via roots, control of transport from roots to above-ground parts of the plant, unloading of Fe from the xylem in above-ground parts, loading of Fe into mitochondria and plastids, tran...

Molecular aspects of membrane trafficking in paramecium.

Results achieved in the molecular biology of Paramecium have shed new light on its elaborate membrane trafficking system. Paramecium disposes not only of the standard routes (endoplasmic reticulum --> Golgi --> lysosomes or secretory vesicles; endo- and phagosomes --> lysosomes/digesting vacuoles), but also of some unique features, e.g. and elaborate phagocytic route with the cytoproct and memb...

Acute toxicity investigation regarding clinical and pathological aspects following repeated oral administration of iron oxide nanoparticles in rats

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPS) have potential different applications in nanomedicine. These new applications of IONPS have raised exposure risk of this nanomaterials to humans. Up to now, all aspects of IONPS toxicity are not fully clear following animal’s exposure with these novel compounds. This study aimed to investigate the acute toxicity effects of IONPS in laboratory animals regarding p...
